Clark County School District face mask policy changes start June 1

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Clark County School District is implementing its new policy on face masks starting Tuesday.

Masks are optional for students in Pre-K through third grade. Fourth and fifth-grade students will still be required to wear masks.

CCSD sent the following to 13 Action News to explain their mask guidelines:

Based on the approval of the Southern Nevada Health District, alignment with Directive 045 from the State of Nevada, and collaboration with local and state officials, the Clark County School District is implementing the following adjustments to the mask policy effective June 1, 2021:

All staff who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask on District sites and/or at District-sponsored events, excluding graduation ceremonies.
All staff are required to wear masks on school buses.

The following is required for students:

Masks are optional for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 3.
Masks are required for students in Grades 4 and 5.

The school district is following State of Nevada directives which do not require children ages 0 - 9 to wear masks. However, the guidance does require anyone 10 years of age or older to wear face coverings at school sites and functions, if they are not fully vaccinated. There is currently not an approved vaccine for children under the age of 12. To ensure that there is the least amount of educational disruption, all students in Grades 4 and 5 must wear a mask even if they are 9 years old.

Masks are optional for students in Grades 6 through 12 who have been fully vaccinated.

All students are required to wear a mask while on a school bus.
Any student or staff, regardless of their age and regardless of their vaccination status, who are outside do not have to wear a mask.
Masks are required for all attendees and students who participate in or attend graduation ceremonies.

Students over the age of 12 are eligible to participate in the COVID-19 vaccinations.
